Help Us Expand the Social Supermarket: Tackling Food Insecurity, Reducing Waste, and Empowering Communities
For over 30 years, The Social Action Hub has been supporting the communities of Rainworth and Blidworth. We’ve created community-led initiatives that respond to local needs, and in 2021, we launched the Social Supermarket™ to tackle food insecurity and reduce food waste.
Our Mission: The Social Supermarket is at the heart of our efforts to combat food insecurity, alleviate financial pressures, and prevent food waste. By offering affordable, high-quality food, we serve everyone in the community, including those facing financial challenges, those who want to contribute to a local initiative, and those looking to help reduce waste.
For just £4.50 per shop, members receive over £45 worth of essential supplies, making it a vital service for families in need. But it’s more than just a supermarket—it's a place where people can contribute to a sustainable cause, support the local community, and help tackle food waste.
Why We Need Your Support:
The Social Supermarket has grown in response to increasing demand, especially during the ongoing cost of living crisis. While we’ve had tremendous success, we are now at full capacity. The need for a larger space, improved accessibility, and more storage is urgent to continue meeting the growing demand.
Our Expansion Goals:
To continue our mission and meet the increasing need, we plan to:

Relocate to a larger space to accommodate more shoppers and reduce waiting times.

Increase floor space and product offerings to enhance the shopping experience and eliminate the need for off-site storage.

Extend our opening hours to make the service more accessible to working families and those with limited access during current hours.

Improve parking arrangements with a dedicated car park for beneficiaries and deliveries.
Additional Initiatives We Plan to Launch:

Virtual School Uniform Exchange – Providing low-cost, nearly new uniforms to local children, helping to ease financial pressure on families.

Dedicated Learning Space – Repurposing our current space for community learning, homeschool support, and alternative education options.

Creating More Jobs and Volunteer Opportunities – Expanding our operations will allow us to create new full-time positions and volunteer roles.
